What you can expect to learn

Many of the ocean’s best dive sites are wrecks. These impressive structures attract unusually high densities of marine life and give you the chance to immerse in living history as you dive.

There is nothing quite like wreck diving and the SSI Wreck Diving specialty will give you all the skills and knowledge you need to become a safe and confident wreck diver. With a combination of academic and confined water sessions, you will be taught how to safely conduct non-penetration dives around wrecks and artificial reefs, up to a depth of 30 meters.

You will also get to practice your wreck diving skills during open water training dives. All of which will ensure you can enjoy wreck diving with confidence and get the most out of every dive. The SSI Wreck Diving Course consists of two main phases:

  • Four Academic Sessions (Independent study or in a classroom)
  • Two Open Water Dives- Where its time to use the knowledge and skills you acquired, in the open ocean to complete the SSI Wreck Diving Course.

Maximum Training Depth : 30 meters / 100 feet


Course equipment requirements

During all in-water scuba training, each student must be equipped with a properly fitted Total Diving System:
• Mask
• Snorkel
• Fins
• Buoyancy compensator with power inflator
• Weight System
• Delivery System with cylinder, primary regulator and alternate air source
• Information System with submersible pressure gauge, depth gauge, and timing device (a dive computer is recommended)
• Exposure suit appropriate for the environment
• Logbook

*Equipment will be provided by your Dive Centre. We recommend that you should get your own gear once you become a certified diver.


Course prerequisites

Minimum age:

  • 10 years old.

Have the following SSI certifications or equivalent from a recognized training agency:

  • Referral Diver

Get started

  • Complete all academic sessions and assessments outlined in the instructor manual for Wreck Diving.
  • Complete the program’s final exam.
  • Complete at least two (2) open water training dives as outlined in the instructor manual for Wreck Diving.

How long will this take?

Recommended hours for completion: 5-10. The number of classes, hours and sessions per day are set by the individual instructor, based on student needs, student ability and water conditions.
